Welcome to PhotoDare!

Billions of photos are taken every day, and behind every single one is a reason why someone took it. Even if the reason was small, or seemingly mundane, someone had a reason for why that life moment was photo-worthy.

These reasons reflect all of life's unpredictable randomness, and no matter how small, we think they’re interesting! When we rediscover and share these life moments, they tell us things about each other’s lives that help us relate, appreciate life, and bring us closer together.

PhotoDare was created as a place to capture and share these life moments. Sharing personal stories requires trust in one another, so to ensure everyone feels safe, we’ve created these guidelines:

TLDR  – THE SHORT VERSION:

PhotoDare is meant for sharing real everyday life moments – there is no pressure here to look cool, hot, rich, smart, funny, successful, or like anyone you’re not.

As such:

  • Feel free to be your real self and share real life moments, even if they feel small or random. People are curious and find lots of things interesting.

  • Do your part in creating a safe space where all are welcome for who they are. If you see anything that goes against these guidelines, report it in the app or to hello@photodare.ca, with screenshots if possible.

  • PhotoDare is for players ages 16+, please do not use it if you are under 16.

  • Only post content you own, and always get permission when sharing photos of others.

  • When playing the 2-player mode to co-create posts with friends, never screenshot, share or discuss this content unless the other person has unlocked it to make it public.

  • Never share personal information, either your own or anyone else's.

  • Don’t be mean: if you don’t have anything nice or relevant to say, keep it to yourself.

  • Discrimination in any form against anyone for any reason including but not limited to race; skin color; sexual preference; gender identity; religious belief; national origin; disabilities; or health is not permitted.

  • Bullying; harassment; threats; intimidation; exploitation; defamation; blackmail; doxxing; terrorism; extremism; abuse; and violence will never be tolerated, and may be reported to law enforcement.

  • NSFW content is not permitted, including but not limited to nudity, sexual content, and gore.

  • Do not post anything related to suicide or self-harm, and if you think you might need help, please seek the help of loved ones and health professionals in your region.

  • Please never use this space to sell goods, services, or promote commercial activities.

  • Do not post or promote any illegal or criminal activity.

  • Do not illegally promote regulated goods or controlled substances including but not limited to firearms, tobacco, alcohol, and narcotics.

  • Don’t do anything that violates the Terms of Service.

  • Moderators reserve the right to review and remove anything and anyone considered to be in violation of these guidelines and may report activity deemed to pose a real-world threat to law enforcement in your region.

THE LONG VERSION

This is a place where everyone is encouraged to rediscover and share the random things that they encounter in their lives; where even the smallest detail or seemingly mundane thing might trigger an interesting discussion.

The ‘real’ life moments PhotoDare celebrates are as diverse as life itself, and naturally this diversity extends to our community. To create a safe and authentic space for all humans to reflect on their lives, please review and respect the following guidelines:

FOLLOW THE RULES:

  1. By using PhotoDare you agree to our Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy, and commit to respecting these guidelines.

  2. We reserve the right to update these guidelines over time.

  3. If you do not agree with the guidelines posted here, than this is not the app or platform for you, please do not use PhotoDare.

BE YOURSELF and STAY CURIOUS

Social media can make us feel pressured to look cool, good looking, rich, and successful – everyone else’s life seems to look better than our own. This has created a culture where people tend to only post things that make them look good.

PhotoDare’s randomised photo selection game counteracts this impulse to curate the life moments we share, but this alone isn’t enough. Sharing things that seem ‘not cool enough for social’ also takes courage, and a belief in other people’s curiosity.

PhotoDare celebrates all the life moments we find photo-worthy, not just the cool-looking ones, so to help everyone break free of this conditioning and be their real selves, please consider the following:

  1. Playing can help you rediscover life moments – be brave and fight the urge to only share the ones that seem ‘cool’!  You had a reason to take the photo, and you never know what someone will find interesting or relate to.

  2. Be curious about other people’s photos and stories, even if you don’t get why they were shared. There’s always a reason for why people take photos, and finding out what it is is fun and gives you a more authentic sense of that person.

  3. PhotoDare is a place for authenticity, so:

    1. Only post stuff that you own.

    2. Do not impersonate anyone else.

    3. Do not use your account to promote or market any services, or to deceptively market services or products by pretending to be someone or have opinions that are not legitimately expressed as your own (needs work here)

    4. Do not post false or misleading information.

  4. PhotoDare isn’t about getting likes, going viral, or gaining followers; please do not ask people to like or share your content.

  5. Sharing accounts or having multiple accounts is not permitted.

BE TRUSTWORTHY:

Sharing photos, and co-creating social posts means you put a lot of trust in each other to treat your photos with the respect and privacy they deserve.

  1. PhotoDare works best with friends who know you, but it’s also great for getting a ‘real’ sense of the people you’re trying to get to know. We recommend starting by inviting 1-2 close friends before trying with strangers.

  2. When a co-created 2-player post with both players’ names is set to public, this means you each have to consider each others’ reputations and not do or say anything that might reflect poorly on them.

  3. If you are concerned about how anyone – including a friend – is conducting themselves, you can report them using the tools in the app, or at hello@photodare.ca. You can also block them from their profile page.
