    — Sandra J

  • “I really like that it's not like Instagram where it's not filtered, and also you don't have time to filter your photo or make it look nice, you send what you send, because I think there's just a lot more opportunities to just have funny photos or like random things you never thought anyone would see or you just took it for your own memory and then you haven't looked at it in like 5 years and it pops up and you're like oh i forgot about that, that's hilarious”

    — Julia S

  • “a lot of people are moving away from that IG ‘my life has to be perfect' kind of thing that we're all used to, and so i think that that's something that will draw people in, where you can be authentic, and real and raw, and that aspect of not knowing what I'm sending is exciting and you're nervous and I can see it being something people really enjoy and get excited about”

    — Hallie T

  • “I find it interesting to scroll through these images because even though I don't know these people, they feel more real than Insta...it's like taking an unfiltered look in spaces where I would normally not be right now,

for example I saw this one picture where there's a big block of Haloumi cheese that I can't get in Germany, and that's interesting, because that's something that would not land on Insta, or on Twitter because it's like not interesting, but here it could be interesting for other folk”

    — Alexander P

  • the anti curation is really nice and you can just enjoy your content in a way you're not over thinking it, yeah because those two pictures I would've just scrolled in my camera roll and not think twice about...to see them in that way and to think that oh yeah this is kind of a nonsense picture on my own phone that I would like to share with other people, it gives it another purpose ”

PhotoDare is a
social photo sharing game with ❤️.

Welcome to a safe space where you can be yourself.

Social media shows us curated, polished and filtered images – everyone looks amazing.

This is because people tend to only publish posts that make them look good, but it’s hard when everyone else’s life seems better than yours.

This imbalance is leading to mental health and self-image issues:

  1. For Teen Girls, Instagram Is a Cesspool (NY Times).

  2. “32 percent of teen girls have told Facebook that when they felt bad about their bodies, Instagram made them feel worse” (Washington Post).

  3. Lush deactivating IG, FB, TikTok & Snap: “retailer says ‘serious effects of social media’ on users’ mental health are ‘going largely ignored” (The Independent).

Meanwhile, people take hundreds of photos they never share. Maybe they’re not right for other platforms, or we forget to share them – but there’s a story behind every one!

These stories are entertaining, and they help you get to know the real life of that person better.

PhotoDare surfaces these stories: it’s made with mental and emotional well-being in mind, through emphasizing real life over fake social media life.

It’s designed for more intimate 1-on-1 exchanges that hack people’s impulse to show only their most polished selves.

And people are ❤️’ing it!

Rediscover life moments and tell the stories you wouldn’t have otherwise – no matter how small – and it stays private unless you want to share.

Play photo games by yourself or with others for hilarious ice-breakers and stories.

Share to just friends, your followers, or make a splash on the Discover page where everyone can enjoy them.

PhotoDare is on a mission to make photo sharing more sincere, because real life is more interesting.

A social photo game built around real life

Turn forgotten camera roll moments into stories you’d never post anywhere else — no filters, no pressure.

PhotoDare uses playful photo prompts to help friends reconnect through the random, messy, funny moments that actually make life interesting.

Why PhotoDare?

Traditional social media rewards highlight reels. Everyone looks amazing — and everyone feels pressure to keep up.

PhotoDare is designed for connection first: the imperfect, unfiltered moments that make you laugh and say, “oh wow, I forgot about this.”

  • Play privately with friends (or post on Discover)
  • Low-pressure by design — no “perfect” expectations
  • Built for genuine connection, not comparison
  • Photo games that make great ice-breakers

The weird, mundane, unpolished stuff is the point.

Friends sharing photos together
  • Everyday life is more interesting than any highlight reel

The pear that looked like a butt. Street art from a trip you forgot about. A mysterious spoon. The photos you'd never post anywhere else are the ones people actually want to see — because they're real. PhotoDare is designed around this idea: the unpolished stuff is the good stuff.

  • Friends first, always

No algorithm decides who sees your photos. No engagement score determines your reach. PhotoDare is built for real conversations between real people — intimate exchanges where you actually get to know someone, not broadcast to an audience you'll never meet.

  • Privacy is the default, not a setting

Every Dare starts private. In 2-player mode, both people have to agree before anything becomes visible to anyone else. You're never surprised by what's public, because nothing is public unless you choose it. We think that's how sharing should work everywhere.

  • Sharing should feel like play

We designed PhotoDare as a game on purpose. The shuffle, the hidden tiles, the blind exchange — they're not gimmicks. They're how we help people get past the instinct to curate, and rediscover moments they'd forgotten about. It's hard to overthink your photo choice when you're flipping a tile and laughing at what shows up.

  • Built with well-being in mind

No likes. No follower counts on profiles. No infinite scroll designed to keep you hooked. PhotoDare isn't trying to extract your attention — it's trying to help you connect with the people you care about. We think social platforms have a responsibility to the people who use them, and we build accordingly.

For the photos you never post. For the stories you've never told. For the real life that's more interesting.

Curated, filtered feeds create an illusion that everyone else's life is better than yours — fueling comparison and anxiety.

Companies like Lush have left social platforms entirely, citing serious mental health effects that go largely unaddressed.

The Independent

Sharing that feels like play, not performance

PhotoDare shuffles your camera roll and turns forgotten photos into a game you play with friends. You each send a photo, reveal them together, and trade the real stories behind them.

🎲

Anti-curation by design

The shuffle hides your photos behind game tiles, so you stumble across moments you forgot about — bypassing the instinct to curate. The randomness is the point.

👀

The blind exchange

You send your photo, then they send theirs. Neither of you sees the other's until you've both committed. It's exciting, a little nerve-wracking, and always surprising.

💬

Stories over selfies

The photo is just the start. The real magic is the conversation — the “wait, what IS that?” and “oh my god, I forgot about this.”

🔒

Private until you say so

Every Dare starts locked. In 2-player mode, both people have to unlock before anyone else can see it. You're always in control.

🧊

The best ice-breaker

Play with friends, dates, or new people. Random photo stories are surprisingly great at breaking through small talk and getting to know someone for real.

🌎

Share your way

Play solo or with a friend. Keep it between you, share with followers, or post to Discover where the whole community can enjoy your stories.
